FAIR OAKS, CA (MPG) - Do you love to garden? If so, you won’t want to miss Harvest Day 2024 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center.

Harvest Day is hosted by the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Master Gardeners of Sacramento County and is free to attend.

Last year, more than 2,000 gardening enthusiasts came out to enjoy the day and learn from the experts.

“Harvest Day is where you’ll find abundant resource information, ideas and answers to all your gardening questions,” said Kathy Steuer, Master Gardener volunteer coordinator.

About 100 volunteers will be on hand to answer questions throughout the day.

“Visitors will also be able to enjoy lush plantings and the wildlife habitat on the one-acre Fair Oaks Horticulture Center grounds,” Steuer said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn about our native plants and grow your general gardening knowledge.”

This year’s event includes three keynote presentations by Northern California gardening pros, 30 education tables, 10 mini-talks, demonstrations and vendors. Food trucks will sell food, snacks and beverages.

The keynote speakers will talk, starting at 8:30 a.m. The topics covered by the speakers are:

8:30 to 9:15 a.m. – Nurturing Soils and Bagged Mixes for Better Plants with Keven Marini, Community Education Specialist, Home Horticulture and Defensible Space University of California Cooperative Extension Placer and Nevada counties.

9:45 to 10:30 a.m. – Container-Grown Fruit Trees: Pros and Cons with Ed Laivo, Fruit Tree Specialist, Ed Able Solutions.

11 to 11:45 a.m. – Plants That Grow Well in Zone 9B with Greg Clayton, Marketing and Community Outreach, Green Acres Nursery and Supply.

The 2025 Gardener Guide and Calendar will be available for purchase. For Master Gardener shop and merchant sales, cash and checks are only accepted.

The event organizers extended their gratitude to the Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District and the numerous sponsors of 2024 for their invaluable contributions, which made the event possible.

The Fair Oaks Horticulture Center is at Fair Oaks Park, 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd.

Only service dogs are allowed at Fair Oaks Horticulture events.
